A
warm welcome to TLC –
The Learning Centre at Stanmore
We are very proud to launch the Autumn term of TLC dedicated in memory of Dr Benjamin Angel. May his passion and commitment to learning inspire us to devote
a portion of each week to Jewish study.
Every Tuesday night during the TLC term, the Shul building will be transformed into a
thriving academy of Jewish learning. We have brought together some of the best
educators from academia, the Rabbinate and various walks of life to present high quality courses on a
wide range of issues and subjects.
We are exceptionally honoured to be launching our Autumn term with the inspirational documentary,
the Miracle of Israel. This acclaimed film has been moving audiences across the USA and we are delighted
to be bringing it to Stanmore. We are even more privileged to have the driving force behind the movie,
Rabbi Berel Wein, the world-renowned author, scholar and teacher, who will be speaking to us before and
after the movie. It will be an evening to remember.
TLC prides itself on having something for everyone. This term we are also featuring courses on Jewish
business ethics, first aid, The Four Kings and Jewish Arts & Music – truly something for everyone.
Following on from the success of last term, we are pleased to be running TLC in the afternoon on Monday
1 December. Please see page 15 to book and for further details.
So join us – we look forward to uniting hundreds of people as they learn together. There really is no
excuse not to dip in and experience the many courses on offer and meet new people as you exchange
ideas.
We hope to build on the success of last term and encourage even more people to get involved in this
exciting educational experience.
Your comments and input are of great importance to us as well. Our future programmes will be prepared
on the basis of your feedback. We look forward to you joining us as we continue The Learning Centre at
Stanmore.

The High Holydays are a defining period in our lives. Individually, something stirs
in our
souls. Collectively, we are lifted and inspired by the familiar sounds and sights of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, as they are annually played out in Shul. For some, it is an experience of a very different nature: that of bewilderment and tediousness.
For me, the High Holydays is an opportunity. The many prayers and traditions are like
indicators pointing to fulfilment and contentment. I view the spiritual experience like
an evening at a concert, where an intricate piece of classical music is being played. The
tune will gradually lift my soul and each movement will excite my senses. I will be enchanted by the
beautiful melody as it reaches its climax.
The High Holydays achieves the same, and much more besides. The secret is in learning and recognising
the tune and the music. And that takes patience and application. But discovering its soul and deeper
message is a reward like no other, and ensures an enjoyable and satisfying time.
The entire year follows this pattern. Our enthusiasm and excitement towards our heritage matches our
awareness of it. TLC at Stanmore offers a superb array of classes all geared to teaching the melody and
beat of Jewish life. Come and discover the mystery and depth of Jewish living and be enthralled by its
ancient, yet contemporary, rhythm.
